That is as long as the design passes a review by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), cycling’s global governing body. Team Visma-Lease a Bike riders debuted the large helmet at the Tirreno-Adriatico prologue in Italy on Monday. However, on Tuesday, the UCI referenced the new design while announcing a review into its rules around helmets in competitions. As part of its helmet regulations, the UCI insists that all helmets used by professional riders are also available to the public. CNN has contacted Specialized, Visma-Lease a Bike, Giro and Rudy Project for comment on the UCI’s review into helmet designs.

Kuss close to overall Vuelta victory as Evenepoel wins stage 18

Sept 14 (Reuters) - Belgium's Remco Evenepoel claimed his third victory in this year's Vuelta a Espana with a solo attack on a mountainous stage 18 and Jumbo-Visma's Sepp Kuss moved a step closer to winning his first Grand Tour on Thursday. Evenepoel's hopes of fighting the Jumbo-Visma riders for the overall title evaporated on stage 13 when he was dropped on the Col d'Aubisque and lost 27 minutes. "It was a super good opportunity to take the points for my jersey -- I took all the points -- and my third stage win is amazing to end the Vuelta with." Provided he avoids any mishaps on Friday and Saturday, Kuss will be a popular champion in Madrid. Vingegaard, who has been helped often by Kuss, warned that there is still a tough stage on Saturday and that the team needed to keep fighting.

Sept 12 (Reuters) - Jonas Vingegaard went solo on a brutal uphill finish to win stage 16 of the Vuelta a Espana as race leader and Jumbo-Visma team mate Sepp Kuss struggled in the finale on Tuesday. Vingegaard powered to the line 43 seconds ahead of Finn Fisher-Black (UAE Team Emirates) and Wout Poels (Bahrain Victorious) who was 49 seconds in arrears. American Kuss held on to the red jersey but finished more than one minute behind Vingegaard and now leads the standings by only 29 seconds. Primoz Roglic completes a Jumbo-Visma top three and is 1:33 behind Kuss. Reporting by Martyn Herman Editing by Christian RadnedgeOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

Evenepoel redeems himself with brilliant Vuelta stage win

American Kuss retained the red jersey and his one minute 37 seconds advantage over three-times Vuelta winner Roglic while Vingegaard is 1:44 adrift. From the beginning of the stage he was in every attack and once the escape group became established it was clear he was the boss of it -- making a tough day look like a breeze. "Yesterday was a very difficult day and also the evening with a lot of negative thoughts in my head," Evenepoel said. "It was a super tough stage but really nice to take my second stage win. Sunday's stage is a hilly route from Pamplona to Lekunberri.

Vingegaard wins Vuelta stage 13 on terrible day for Evenepoel

Sept 8 (Reuters) - Jonas Vingegaard tamed the Tourmalet to win stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana, on a dramatic day which saw last year's winner Remco Evenepoel's challenge wither in the Pyrenees on Friday. The relentless climbing and downhill racing took its toll on many, including last year's winner Evenepoel, who now finds himself out of contention. Any early attacks had all been reeled in by a Jumbo-Visma team looking to control the race. With the five-man group left to battle behind Vingegaard, it was Kuss who attacked in the final kilometre to close the gap. Saturday's stage 14 is another mountain stage, a 156.5 kilometre ride from Sauveterre-de-Bearn to Larra-Belagua.

CNN —Twin energy powered a memorable 1-2 finish on Saturday as the 110th Tour de France got underway in Bilbao, Spain. Twin brothers, Adam and Simon Yates, finished the stage in first and second place respectively – the last brothers to do so were Andy and Frank Schleck in 2011. I asked [the team] and they said ‘go for it’,” Adam told reporters after securing the yellow jacket. “I’m ecstatic for him, but I also wanted to win,” Simon told reporters, in typical sibling fashion. Despite finishing behind the Yates brothers, Pogačar, who is teammates with Adam, said he was happy with the results from Bilbao.

Adam got the better of his identical twin to claim his first grand tour stage win, while his UAE Emirates team leader Tadej Pogacar finished third, also raising his arms in celebration. Adam was the stronger in the final uphill drag to prevail by four seconds, with Pogacar, who showed great legs in his first stage race since breaking a wrist in April, crossed the line 12 seconds off the pace. Overall, Yates leads his brother by eight seconds after picking up 10 seconds for the stage win, while Pogacar is 18 seconds off the pace. That Adam seized the opportunity to get the yellow jersey is a team dream coming true," said Pogacar. "We are in constant liaison with the State services and we are following the situation and how it has been evolving," Prudhomme told reporters. "Depending on what happens we will adapt if needed," said Prudhomme. Many teams are structured around a single rider who they believe can win the race’s overall title, known as the general classification. Other teams have more than one race contender, and will decide during the Tour which one has the best chance of victory. Then there is the pride in winning even a single day’s stage, which for many cyclists can rank as a career highlight. There are two overwhelming favorites: Jonas Vingegaard, a Danish cyclist on Team Jumbo-Visma who won last year, and Tadej Pogacar, the Slovene cyclist on UAE Team Emirates who won in 2020 and 2021. The overarching story line of this year’s race, and the battle that dictates much of the strategy, will be based around the assumption that Vingegaard and Pogacar will duke it out all the way to Paris.

June 3 (Reuters) - Slovenian Tadej Pogacar said his wrist may not recover fully in time for next month's Tour de France and he could race with a brace as he looks to win cycling's most prestigious crown for a third time. Pogacar fractured his wrist in a crash during the Liege-Bastogne-Liege one-day race in April and underwent surgery to treat a scaphoid fracture. For the Tour, maybe I'll still need some soft brace around the wrist, just for a bit of support. Pogacar won the Tour in 2020 and 2021 but failed to complete a hat-trick of wins last year when he was beaten by Jonas Vingegaard. "Normally, I really like to have a race before the important race.

May 10 (Reuters) - Favourite Remco Evenepoel crashed twice on stage five of the Giro d'Italia on Wednesday, the first time after a dog strayed on to the road in treacherous conditions caused by driving rain, before Kaden Groves won the stage in a bunch sprint. The second crash did not affect Evenepoel's time as it happened inside the three-km mark, effectively neutralising the general classification times. But the crash left the Belgian world champion fuming while the rest of the bunch surged ahead and Alpecin–Deceuninck's Groves dominated the sprint to win the stage. The breakaway trio of Thomas Champion, Samuele Zoccarato and Stefano Gandin had built up a head of steam before they were absorbed by the peloton with seven km to go. Just super bad luck, with the second crash," he said.
April 23 (Reuters) - Belgian Remco Evenepoel claimed back-to-back wins in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege one-day race on Sunday with a stunning solo ride to victory while Slovenia's pre-race favourite Tadej Pogacar had to abandon the race after fracturing his wrist in a crash. Soudal Quick-Step's Evenepoel first attacked with about 34 km left with Ineos Grenadiers' Tom Pidcock joining him at the front. But Evenepoel attacked again on the next climb to leave the Briton behind with 30 km to go. My back wheel went a bit like it did last year (on a turn)," Evenepoel said. I said I wanted the picture with the jersey to put in my bedroom," Evenepoel added.
Van der Poel solos to emotional Milan-Sanremo victory

March 18 (Reuters) - Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won the Milan-Sanremo on Saturday to claim the first Monument of the season, 62 years after his grandfather won the race. However, Van der Poel launched his attack on the summit of the Poggio with 5.5km to go and stormed into the lead, extending it as they entered the city with the other three riders fighting it out for second place. The victory was Van der Poel's third after winning the Tour of Flanders in 2020 and 2022, following in the footsteps of his French grandfather Raymond Poulidor who won the race in 1961. It's one Monument every rider wants to win one day," Van der Poel said with a smile. Milan-Sanremo is the longest Monument race at 294 kilometres this year.
